Unnao is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in the central part of the state and is part of the Lucknow division. The district headquarters is located in the town of Unnao.The district covers an area of 4,558 square kilometers and has a population of around 3.1 million people (as per the 2011 census). The district is divided into five tehsils - Unnao, Safipur, Purwa, Bangarmau, and Bighapur - and has a total of 16 blocks. The district is primarily rural, with agriculture being the main occupation of the people.Unnao has several important historical and religious sites, including the Unnao Fort, which dates back to the 17th century and was built by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Other notable tourist spots include the Shiv Temple at Bithoor, the Chandra Shekhar Azad Park, and the Devi Patan Temple.

As per the 2011 Census of India, Unnao had a population of 311,709. The city has a literacy rate of 73.9% and a sex ratio of 901 females per 1000 males. The majority of the population is Hindu, followed by Muslims and Sikhs. The official language of Unnao is Hindi, but Urdu and English are also widely spoken.
