The district is bordered by the districts of Kanpur Nagar, Etawah, and Jalaun to the north, south, and west respectively, and by the river Yamuna to the east.

The district is largely rural in nature and is divided into five tehsils - Akbarpur, Derapur, Rasulabad, Sikandra, and Tiloi.
