Kanpur Dehat is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in the southwestern part of the state and is part of the Kanpur division. The district was carved out of the erstwhile Kanpur district in 1977. The district headquarters is located in Akbarpur town.The district covers an area of 3,029 square kilometers and has a population of around 1.8 million people (as per the 2011 census). The district is divided into three tehsils - Akbarpur, Derapur, and Rasulabad - and has a total of 14 blocks. The district is primarily rural, with agriculture being the main occupation of the people.Kanpur Dehat has several important tourist attractions, including the temple of Bithoor, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama"s sons Luv and Kush. Other notable tourist spots include the Sita Kund, Siddhnath and Shivrajpur temples, and the Jain Glass Temple in Akbarpur.

Geography

Kanpur Dehat is located in the northern part of Uttar Pradesh and lies between 25.43 degrees to 26.27 degrees North latitude and 79.43 degrees to 80.31 degrees East longitude. The district is situated at an altitude of 128 meters above sea level and covers an area of 3,057.03 square kilometers. The district is largely rural in nature and is divided into five tehsils - Akbarpur, Derapur, Rasulabad, Sikandra, and Tiloi.

The district is blessed with rich alluvial soil and has a favorable climate for agriculture. The major crops grown in the district include wheat, rice, sugarcane, and mustard. The district is also home to a number of small and medium scale industries, particularly in the textile, leather, and food processing sectors.

History
