Simdega Tourism

Simdega is a district located in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is situated in the southwestern region of the state and is bounded by Gumla district in the north, Khunti district in the east, and Orissa state in the south and west. Simdega is the administrative headquarters of the district and is one of the major towns in the region. 

History

The history of Simdega can be traced back to ancient times when it was a part of the Magadha Empire. The region was ruled by various dynasties, including the Maurya and Gupta empires. The area was also part of the Chhotanagpur princely states until the British Raj. The region was under British control from the mid-18th century to 1947.

After independence, the region became a part of Bihar state. In 2000, Jharkhand state was carved out of Bihar, and Simdega became a district in the new state. Today, Simdega is a rapidly developing district, with a growing economy and a vibrant culture.

Geography

Simdega is located in the southwestern region of Jharkhand state. The district covers an area of 3,750 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of 418 meters above sea level. The region is hilly, with the main hill ranges being the Simdega, Jaldega, and Kolebira ranges. The district is crisscrossed by several rivers, including the South Koel, Sankh, and Palamau. The climate of Simdega is tropical, with hot summers and cool winters.

Demographics

According to the 2011 Census of India, Simdega has a population of 599,813, making it one of the least populous districts in Jharkhand. The district has a sex ratio of 1000 females for every 959 males and a literacy rate of 66.59%.

The majority of the population in Simdega is tribal, with the major tribes being the Munda, Oraon, and Kharia. The district is known for its vibrant tribal culture and traditions.

Economy

The economy of Simdega is primarily agrarian, with the majority of the population engaged in farming and animal husbandry. The district is known for its production of paddy, maize, and pulses. Other major crops grown in the region include wheat, jute, and oilseeds.

In recent years, the district has seen significant growth in industries such as mining, power generation, and agro-processing. The region has rich deposits of minerals such as iron ore, coal, and bauxite, which are mined extensively. The state government has initiated several schemes to promote the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in the district.

Culture

Simdega is known for its rich tribal culture and traditions. The district is home to several festivals and fairs throughout the year. One of the major festivals celebrated in the region is the Sarhul festival, which is celebrated by the Munda tribe.
