Giridh Tourism

Giridih is a district located in the state of Jharkhand, India. It is situated in the northern part of the state and covers an area of 4853 square kilometers. The district headquarters is located in the city of Giridih. 

History

The history of Giridih dates back to the prehistoric era. The district has a rich archaeological heritage with numerous ancient rock paintings and stone tools found in the region. The district was ruled by various dynasties, including the Mauryas, Guptas, and Mughals. During the British rule, Giridih was part of the Bengal Presidency. After India's independence, Giridih became part of the state of Bihar and later the newly formed state of Jharkhand in 2000.

Geography

Giridih is located in the northern part of Jharkhand and is bordered by the districts of Deoghar and Jamtara to the north, Dumka and Pakur to the east, Hazaribagh and Koderma to the south, and Bokaro to the west. The district is predominantly hilly, with the Parasnath Hills being the highest point at 1350 meters above sea level. The district has a moderate climate, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 30°C.

Demographics

As per the 2011 census, Giridih has a population of 24,38,243. The district has a literacy rate of 61.94%, with male literacy at 73.37% and female literacy at 49.61%. The majority of the population belongs to the tribal communities, including Santhal, Oraon, and Munda. Hindi is the most commonly spoken language in the district.

Economy

The economy of Giridih is predominantly agricultural, with rice and wheat being the major crops grown in the region. The district is also known for its mica deposits, which are extensively mined. Other minerals found in the district include coal, limestone, and bauxite. The district has a significant small-scale industry, including the production of textiles, pottery, and handicrafts.

Culture

The culture of Giridih is a blend of the traditions of the tribal communities and the local non-tribal population. The district has a rich cultural heritage, with numerous fairs and festivals celebrated throughout the year. Some of the major festivals celebrated in the district include Sarhul, Karma, and Durga Puja. The district is also known for its traditional music and dance forms, including the Santhali dance and the Paika dance.

Tourism

Giridih is a popular tourist destination, with numerous natural and cultural attractions. The Parasnath Hills are a major pilgrimage site for Jains, with the Shikharji Temple located at the summit. The temple is believed to be the place where Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, attained enlightenment. The district is also known for its numerous waterfalls, including the Khandoli Waterfall, Usri Falls, and Surya Kund. The Jain Museum located in the city of Giridih is also a major attraction for tourists.
