History

Bathinda has a rich historical legacy that dates back to the 3rd century BC. The city was originally known as Bhatti, named after a Rajput clan that ruled over the region. During the Mauryan Empire, the region was under the control of Emperor Ashoka, who is said to have visited the city to propagate his message of peace and non-violence. Later, Bathinda came under the rule of various dynasties such as the Guptas, Kushans, and Huns.

The city was the site of several battles between the Sikh forces and the Mughal Empire, including the famous Battle of Muktsar in 1705, where the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, fought against the Mughal forces.
