Sirohi is a city and a district located in the southern part of Rajasthan, India. It is situated on the foothills of the Aravalli Range and is known for its scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage. The city was named after the Sirohi Kingdom, which was founded by the Deora Rajputs in the 10th century AD. Sirohi is known for its ancient forts, temples, and monuments. Sirohi is a small city located in the southwestern region of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated in the Sirohi district, which is one of the thirty-three districts of Rajasthan. The city of Sirohi is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountain ranges and is situated at an elevation of about 321 meters above sea level. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and historical monuments. 

History

Sirohi has a rich and vibrant history that dates back to the 6th century AD. The city was founded by the Rajput king, Rao Sobha Ji, who belonged to the Sirohi dynasty. The city was a major center of trade and commerce during the medieval period and was an important stopover on the ancient trade routes that connected India with Central Asia and the Middle East.

During the medieval period, Sirohi was ruled by several Rajput dynasties, including the Chauhans, the Solankis, and the Gehlots. The city played an important role in the struggle between the Rajputs and the Mughals for control over Rajasthan. In the 18th century, Sirohi became a princely state under the British Raj and remained a part of Rajasthan after India's independence in 1947.

Geography

Sirohi is located in the southwestern part of Rajasthan and is bounded by the Aravalli Mountain ranges to the northeast and the plains of Gujarat to the southwest. The city is situated at an elevation of about 321 meters above sea level and has a hot and dry climate, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 40°C during the summer months and dropping to about 15°C during the winter months.

The region around Sirohi is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to several important wildlife sanctuaries, including the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve.

Sirohi has a population of about 100,000 people, according to the 2011 Census of India. The city is predominantly Hindu, with a significant Muslim minority. The official language of Sirohi is Hindi, although English is widely spoken and understood.

Economy

The economy of Sirohi is primarily based on agriculture, with wheat, maize, and cotton being the main crops grown in the region. The city is also known for its handicrafts, particularly its leatherwork and pottery. The government of Rajasthan has initiated several development projects in the region to promote tourism and industrial growth, which has led to the establishment of several small and medium-sized industries in Sirohi.
