However, in the 18th century, the city was renamed Tonk, which means 'place of leopards' in the local language. The city was ruled by the Nawabs of Tonk, who were known for their love for art, culture, and architecture.

The Nawabs of Tonk were great patrons of the arts and were responsible for the city's stunning architecture. They commissioned the construction of numerous palaces, mosques, and mausoleums, which can still be seen in the city today. The city also played an important role during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, with the Nawab of Tonk supporting the British.

Geography of Tonk

Tonk is situated in the northeastern part of Rajasthan and covers an area of around 7,000 square kilometers.
