Mahesana, also known as Mehsana, is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is located in the northern part of the state and is the administrative headquarters of the Mahesana district. History

The history of Mahesana can be traced back to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. The city was a part of the Mauryan Empire and later came under the rule of the Solanki dynasty. In the 18th century, it was ruled by the Marathas, and after the fall of the Maratha Empire, it came under the British rule. Mahesana played an important role in the Indian independence movement and was the site of several important protests and movements.

Geography

Mahesana is located at a distance of around 70 km from the city of Ahmedabad. It has an area of 4,026 square kilometers and is surrounded by the Aravalli Range on the west and north-west, the Sabarmati River on the east, and the Gandhinagar district on the south-east. The climate of Mahesana is characterized by hot summers and mild winters, with the monsoon season starting in June and lasting till September.

Demographics

As per the 2011 census, the population of Mahesana was around 2.03 lakh. The majority of the population comprises of Hindus, with Muslims, Jains, and Christians being the other religious communities. Gujarati is the primary language spoken in the city, with Hindi and English being widely understood and spoken as well. Mahesana is known for its friendly and hospitable people who take pride in their culture and traditions.

Economy

Mahesana has a growing economy, with agriculture, industry, and services being the primary sectors. The city is known for its production of cotton, groundnuts, and tobacco. The Mahesana district is also a hub for ceramic and tile manufacturing, with several large factories located in the region. The city is well-connected to the rest of the state by road and rail, and the Ahmedabad-Mehsana Expressway has made commuting faster and more convenient. The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation has established several industrial estates in the region, providing employment opportunities to the local population.
