History

In the 16th century, the district came under the control of the Rajputs, who established their capital at Palanpur. The region played an important role in the struggle for Indian independence, and many freedom fighters, including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, were born here.

Banaskantha is located in the northern part of Gujarat, bordering the state of Rajasthan to the north and northeast. The district is situated between 23.50 and 25.01 degrees North latitude and 71.27 and 73.24 degrees East longitude. The district is divided into three distinct regions: the eastern hills, the central plain, and the western desert. The Banas river, which flows through the district, is the main source of water for the area.
