Buldhana is a district in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is located in the Vidarbha region of the state, and covers an area of approximately 9,661 square kilometers. The district headquarters is situated in the city of Buldhana, which is also the largest city in the district. Buldhana is home to a rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse economy, making it a fascinating place to explore and learn about.

History

The history of Buldhana dates back to ancient times, with evidence of human habitation found in the area dating back to the Stone Age. The district was ruled by various dynasties throughout history, including the Mauryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, and Yadavas. During the medieval period, the region was ruled by the Bahmani Sultanate, followed by the Nizamshahi dynasty, and later the Mughals.

In the 18th century, the region was annexed by the Maratha Empire under the leadership of Shivaji Maharaj. After the decline of the Maratha Empire, the district came under the control of the British East India Company. Following India's independence in 1947, Buldhana became a part of the newly-formed state of Maharashtra.

Geography

Buldhana is situated in the eastern part of Maharashtra, and is bordered by Madhya Pradesh to the north, Amravati district to the west, Akola district to the south, and Washim district to the east. The district is situated at an altitude of 559 meters above sea level, and is predominantly a flat region with a few hills and forests. The major rivers flowing through the district are the Tapi and Purna, which provide irrigation to the agricultural land.

Climate

Buldhana has a tropical savanna climate, with hot summers and mild winters. The monsoon season lasts from June to September, during which the district receives most of its rainfall. The average annual rainfall in the district is around 925 mm. The temperature during the summer months can rise up to 45°C, while the winter months are relatively mild, with temperatures averaging around 18°C.

Demographics

As per the 2011 Census of India, the population of Buldhana district was 2,588,039, with a sex ratio of 938 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate in the district was 80.66%, with males having a literacy rate of 88.58% and females having a literacy rate of 72.35%.

Languages spoken in the district include Marathi, Hindi, and English, with Marathi being the most widely spoken language.

Economy

Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy in Buldhana, with the majority of the population engaged in farming. The district is known for its production of cotton, soybean, jowar, wheat, and bajra. Other crops grown in the region include groundnuts, sunflowers, and oranges.

Apart from agriculture, the district also has a growing industrial sector, with industries in the areas of textiles, sugar, engineering, and chemicals. The district is home to a number of large industrial units, including the MSPGCL Power Plant, which is one of the largest thermal power plants in the country.
