Vizianagaram is located in the northern part of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated at an elevation of 75 meters above sea level. The city is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on the west and the Bay of Bengal on the east. The city is located at a distance of 42 kilometers from the city of Visakhapatnam.

The climate of Vizianagaram is tropical. The city experiences hot and humid summers, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. The winters are mild, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. The monsoon season starts in June and lasts till September.

As per the 2011 census, the population of Vizianagaram was 228,025. The city has a literacy rate of 80%, which is higher than the national average. The majority of the population is Hindu, followed by Muslims and Christians. The official language of the city is Telugu, but English and Hindi are also spoken widely.

Economy

Vizianagaram has a mixed economy, with agriculture and industry being the two major sectors. The city is known for its paddy fields and sugarcane plantations. The major crops grown in the district are paddy, sugarcane, and groundnuts.

The city also has a growing industrial sector, with several small and medium-scale industries operating in the area. The major industries in the city are textiles, cement, and sugar. The city is also known for its handloom industry, which produces high-quality fabrics.

Culture

Vizianagaram is one of the major cultural centers of Andhra Pradesh. The city is known for its rich tradition of classical music and dance. The famous Kuchipudi dance form originated in the nearby village of Kuchipudi. The city is also home to several famous musicians, including the legendary Veena player, Emani Sankara Sastry.

The city celebrates several festivals throughout the year. The most important festival in the city is the Vizianagaram Maharajah's birthday, which is celebrated in May every year. The festival is a grand affair, with a procession of elephants and horses through the city. Other major festivals celebrated in the city are Diwali, Dussehra, and Ugadi.
