The district covers an area of 5,837 square kilometers and is divided into 38 mandals. The Nagavali River, a major tributary of the Godavari River, flows through the district. Srikakulam has a tropical climate, with hot and humid summers and cool winters.

According to the 2011 census, the population of Srikakulam district was 2,699,471, with a population density of 462 people per square kilometer. The literacy rate of the district is 68.9%, with male literacy at 76.2% and female literacy at 61.5%. The majority of the population is engaged in agriculture and allied activities.
