Nellore is a city known as Vikram Simhapuri till the 13th century. Telugu was under the rule of Pandya and other dynasties. On November 1, 1956, when states were recognised on the basis of linguistic differences, some of the important industries in the region which came into existence are Micah Mines and Thermal Power Plants. It is very good to see the Dharma culture, heritage, Rangnayaka Temple, Jonawara, Penchalakona and much more, which is built on a distance of about 20 kilometres. The main rivers of the region are Pennar, Swarmukhi and Gundlakam. The average height of the district is 19 metres and has a beach on its 163 km border. Satavahana had been under the rule of kings, Kakatiya, Pallava, Chola, Teluguchol, Pandya and other dynasties. Nellore district is one of the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh. The main occupation of the people of Nellore is agriculture and the most grown crops in the district are paddy, jowar, bajra as well as tobacco, chilli, groundnut and sugarcane.
