Geography and Climate

Perambalur district has a total area of 1,752 square kilometers and is bordered by Tiruchirappalli district to the south, Ariyalur district to the east, Cuddalore district to the northeast, and Salem district to the northwest. The district is predominantly flat, with an average elevation of 77 meters above sea level. The district is drained by the Kollidam river and its tributaries. The climate of Perambalur is tropical and semi-arid, with hot summers and moderate winters. The monsoon season usually lasts from October to December.


Perambalur has a rich history that dates back to the Sangam era. The region was ruled by various dynasties, including the Cholas, Pallavas, and the Vijayanagara Empire. The region was later conquered by the Muslim rulers of the Bahmani Sultanate, who were later succeeded by the Bijapur Sultanate.
