India Gate (not to be confused by Gateway of India in Mumbai) a 42-metre high free standing arch designed by Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens was based on February ten 1931 by the Duke of Connaught. The lofty entry of India Gate,is the main landmark of Central Delhi at the middle of Old Delhi could be a war memorial in-built memory of the Indian troopers Who lost their lives fighting for the British Army in World War I and the Third Afghan War, 1919. The names of the 13,516 martyrs are inscribed on this imposing monument.

It was under this canopy that the marble statue of George V, which was later shifted to Coronation Durbar Site, once stood. Visitors can stand on the other side of the canopy and view the Rajpath Avenue, the ceremonial venue of India, in its entirety. Originally called the All India War Memorial is located near Rajpath, the boulevard in New Delhi that runs from Rashtrapati Bhavan or President's house on Raisina Hill to the National Stadium. You will find that India Gate resembles the architectural style of the triumphal arch of the Arch of Constantine and the Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile in Paris. The names of the troopers are inscribed right along the walls of the arch. in the dead of night it glows warmly beneath floodlights, and therefore the gardens that line its avenue ar a well-liked place to fancy a heat summer's evening. It is a well maintained monument and you will find the place quite relaxing.
There is an ever burning eternal flame of the immortal soldier to respect the fallen soldiers. You can walk around the triumphal arch and read the soldiers names engraved on the gate. Sometimes, the monument is sealed off for political purposes. You will need about 30 minutes to walk around. Hungry souls have many items to gorge on — Fruit Chaat, Bhel Puri, Chana Jor Garam, Dal ka Pakodas, potato chips, ice cream, candy floss and aerated drinks. Children can blow soap bubbles, play cricket and enjoy camel or pony rides. There is no entry fee.
