Hooghly is one of the districts of the state of West Bengal in India. It is alternatively known as Hooghly or Hooghly, named after the river Hooghly which flows through this place. It is one of the famous tourist destinations of Kolkata tourism which is visited by scores of tourists from many parts of the world. It is one of the most vibrant district of Kolkata, which has great significance for Bengalis as it is the birthplace of the eternal Bengali novelist Sharatchandra Chatterjee. Along with this it is also a holy place where Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and his wife Sarada Devi spent a large part of their lives. Hooghly has thousands of years of rich heritage culture as the great Bengali empire. The first European Portuguese sailor to reach the region was Vasco-da-Gama.
