History

Yamuna Nagar is a relatively young city, established in 1940. Before that, the region was a part of the Ambala district. The name "Yamuna Nagar" is derived from the fact that the city is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. After independence, Yamuna Nagar became a part of Punjab state, and later, in 1966, it became a part of Haryana state when the state was carved out of Punjab.
