In the 16th century, Nuapada was ruled by the Gond dynasty, who were famous for their architectural skills and built several temples in the region. During the British rule, Nuapada was a part of the Raipur district of the Central Provinces and Berar. After India gained independence in 1947, Nuapada became a part of the newly formed state of Odisha.

Geography

Nuapada is located in the western part of Odisha and is surrounded by the Mahanadi River on the north and the Tel River on the south. The town is located at an altitude of 615 feet above sea level and is situated on the eastern edge of the Satpura mountain range.
