It is one of the historical cities of Orissa. It is the largest city in Koraput district. An old palace, old school and collage make the city attractive. It is the largest city after Brahmapur in South Odisha and sub-division of Koraput district of Odisha, India. Along with Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Bala, Puri and Brahmapur, Jaypore is one of the prominent places in Odisha. Jaypore is pronounced as Joypur in Oriya which literally means "City of Victory". Nature has liberally liberated it from waterfalls and thick green forests. It has fallen from the Eastern Ghat hills and the more famous Araku hills on three sides such as the Horseshoe along the western shore opening up to Chhattisgarh in western India. It is a commercial center for the district and southern Odisha. In the southern part of Orissa, Jaypore is more than 500 km from the capital Bhubaneswar.
Jagannath Sagar
This is a big pond, hence it is known as Sagar. This historic lake is now a favorite place of residents. An amusement park has been developed along its side, there is a toy train and boating facilities are also available. Many small parts of the lake are used for aqua culture. It is a favorite place for morning walkers.
Jaypore Palace
Jaipore is an old palace of the Jeypore Raja in the center of the city and at one end of the main road. In front of the palace is the Raghunath Temple. Its main road starts from the palace and ends at the government bus stand. Its old city only came around this palace. Still the narrow lanes and the walls of the fort give a glimpse of the past history of Jeypore.
