History

The history of Malkangiri dates back to ancient times. The district was ruled by various dynasties, including the Satavahanas, the Chalukyas, the Eastern Gangas, and the Vijayanagara Empire. During the British rule in India, Malkangiri was a part of the Koraput district. After India gained independence in 1947, Malkangiri became a separate district in 1992.
