Porvorim is located approximately 10 kilometers from the state capital of Panaji and 15 kilometers from the popular tourist destination of Calangute beach.

History

Porvorim has a rich history, dating back to the pre-Portuguese era. The town was originally called Peddem, and it was a part of the Bicholim Taluka. During the Portuguese era, Porvorim was known as the village of Sashti. The town was mainly a farming community, with coconut and cashew plantations being the main source of income for the locals.

After Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961, Porvorim began to develop rapidly. The town started to attract a lot of migrants from other parts of Goa and the country. This led to the town's rapid expansion and development.
