History

The history of North Goa dates back to the 3rd century BC when it was ruled by the Mauryan Empire. Later, it was ruled by various dynasties such as the Satavahanas, the Chalukyas, the Kadambas, and the Rashtrakutas. In the 14th century, the Bahmani Sultanate conquered Goa, and it remained under their rule until the arrival of the Portuguese in 1510.

The Portuguese ruled Goa for over four centuries, and their influence can still be seen in the architecture, cuisine, and culture of North Goa. The Portuguese introduced Christianity to the region, and many churches and cathedrals were built during their rule.
