The land of knowledge is known for its Buddhist sites and monuments. At this place, Bihar once came to learn and saw a center for monks and students from far and wide. The city is also known as the birthplace of Sariputra, a follower of Lord Buddha. A famous center of learning in the ancient era, only ruins of the university remain even today. Nalanda is famous for being the oldest university in the world. Hyun Tsang Memorial Hall has been built in memory of the famous Chinese traveler Hyun-Tsang. Hiyen Tyong lived here for 12 years and wrote very good things about the people and society of contemporary India.
This Nalanda University was once a major center of higher education. It is in the ruins right now. Buddhism, spirituality, Vedas and other life sciences were popular subjects taught here. Nava Nalanda Vihar is a center that aims to study Buddhism and its soul in the present day. The Sun Temple near the ruins of Nalanda University is mainly dedicated to Lord Surya, but it houses several of the Goddess Nalanda s museum which is a huge collection of ancient manuscripts and Buddhist sculptures, which were found during excavations at the sites of Nalanda. There are more number of various idols of Gods and Goddesses and other Buddha statues.
Nalanda University ruins archaeological complex is a more or less damaged statue of Lord Buddha present in a small chapel. The huge architecture of the temple is quite interesting. The Nalanda Archaeological Museum has a small assortment of bronze structures belonging to Hindu and Buddhism and several indomitable statues of Lord Buddha on the reverse side of the entry point for the remains of the university and houses. For the education and discovery of Pali literature and Buddhism, the Nava Nalanda Mahavihara has been dedicated. The Hiyen Tsang Memorial Hall has been built in memory of the revered Chinese traveler named Hyeen Tsang. A delicious locally made dessert called "Khaja" about a village named Siao. Chhath Puja is the festival of worship of Sun God.
There is a unique Chhath Puja in Nalanda, or worship of the Sun God, one of the most famous is at Bargaon near Nalanda, Buddha attained enlightenment and attained nirvana on the same full moon day of April - May. It is celebrated as Buddha Jayanti on Baisakhi Poornima.
