Jamui is located at 24.92°N 86.22°E and covers an area of 3,098 km². The district is situated on the Chota Nagpur Plateau and is surrounded by hills and forests. The district is primarily agricultural, and the main crops grown here are paddy, wheat, maize, and sugarcane. The district also has several rivers, including the Kiul, the Uren, and the Paimar.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, Jamui had a population of 1,760,405, with a sex ratio of 924 females to 1000 males. The literacy rate in the district is 63.54%, with male literacy at 74.06% and female literacy at 51.23%. The district is primarily rural, with only 15.48% of the population living in urban areas. The major communities in the district are Bhumihars, Rajputs, Yadavs, and Musahars.

The economy of Jamui is primarily based on agriculture, with the majority of the population engaged in farming. The district is known for its production of maize, wheat, paddy, and sugarcane. The district also has several small-scale industries, including bidi making, weaving, and handloom. The government has initiated several schemes to boost the local economy, including the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme and the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project.
