The city served as the capital of the Bahmani Sultanate for over 150 years and was later ruled by the Adil Shahis, the Mughals, and the Nizams of Hyderabad before becoming a part of independent India in 1947.

Geography

Gulbarga is located in the northern part of Karnataka and covers an area of approximately 64 square kilometers. It is situated at an elevation of 458 meters above sea level and is surrounded by the Deccan plateau. The city is situated on the banks of the Bhima River, which flows through the district. The climate of Gulbarga is characterized by hot summers and cool winters, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 40°C.

As of the 2011 census, the population of Gulbarga was 533,587. The city has a literacy rate of 72.28% and a sex ratio of 962 females for every 1000 males. The majority of the population in Gulbarga is Hindu, followed by Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs.
