The city was later ruled by the Mughals, the Marathas, and the Nizam of Hyderabad.

In the 19th century, the British took control of Bellary and made it a part of the Madras Presidency. During the British rule, Bellary became an important center for the iron and steel industry. After India gained independence in 1947, Bellary became a part of the newly formed state of Mysore (now Karnataka).

Geography

Bellary is located in the eastern part of Karnataka and is surrounded by the districts of Anantapur and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to the north, Raichur to the west, and Chitradurga and Davangere to the south. The city is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, which is an important source of water for irrigation and power generation.
