Mandrem has a rich history that dates back to the pre-Portuguese era. The village was originally known as Mandrem-Malpai, which means "Mandrem of the hills." The area was ruled by the Kadamba dynasty, followed by the Vijayanagara Empire and later by the Bahmani Sultanate. The Portuguese arrived in the 16th century and ruled over Goa for over 450 years until it gained independence in 1961.

Geography

Mandrem is located in the northernmost part of Goa and is approximately 30 km from the state capital, Panaji. The village is bordered by the Arabian Sea on the west and the Chapora River on the east. The village has a total area of 3.4 square km and is surrounded by lush green forests and hills. Mandrem has a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C throughout the year.

Culture

Mandrem has a rich cultural heritage, with a mix of Konkani and Portuguese influences. The village is predominantly Hindu, and there are several temples in and around Mandrem that are worth visiting.
