Later, it became a part of the Satavahana dynasty, which ruled over the Deccan region from the 1st century BC to the 3rd century AD.

During the medieval period, Ongole was ruled by various dynasties, including the Kakatiya, Vijayanagara, and Gajapati dynasties. In the 18th century, it came under the rule of the British East India Company, who established a trading post in the city. Ongole played an important role in the Indian independence movement, with many freedom fighters hailing from the city.
