South Tripura Tourism

South Tripura is one of the eight districts of Tripura, a state in northeastern India. The district covers an area of 2152 square kilometers and is located in the southern part of the state. It is bordered by West Tripura district to the north, Bangladesh to the south and west, and Sepahijala district to the east.

Geography

South Tripura district is situated in the valley of the Haora River, which flows through the district from east to west. The district is mainly composed of hilly terrain with elevations ranging from 10 meters to 200 meters above sea level. The district has a tropical climate with heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September.

The district has a predominantly tribal population, with the majority belonging to the Tripuri tribe. Other tribes residing in the district include the Reang, Jamatia, Noatia, and Halam tribes. The district also has a significant Bengali population.

Culture

The culture of South Tripura district is a blend of tribal and non-tribal cultures. The traditional dance forms of the Tripuri tribe, such as the Goria dance, are popular in the district. The Reang tribe is known for its Cheraw dance, which involves rhythmic clapping and the use of bamboo sticks. The district also has a rich tradition of handicrafts, including bamboo and cane products, pottery, and handloom textiles.

Economy

Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for the people of South Tripura district. The district is known for its production of rice, sugarcane, jute, and mustard. The district also has a significant horticulture industry, with the production of fruits such as pineapple, orange, and lemon. The district is home to the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Industrial Estate, which houses several small and medium-sized enterprises.

Tourism

South Tripura district has several tourist attractions that draw visitors from across the country. The Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the eastern part of the district, is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The sanctuary is home to several endangered species, including the spectacled langur and the clouded leopard.
