Williamnagar Tourism

Williamnagar is a small town located in the East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya state in India. It is the district headquarters and is situated on the banks of the Simsang River. The town is named after Captain Williamson A. Sangma, who was a prominent figure in the Indian National Army.

History

Williamnagar was established in 1957, and it was initially known as Simsanggre. The town was renamed Williamnagar in honor of Captain Williamson A. Sangma, who played a significant role in the Indian National Army's freedom struggle against the British.

Geography

Williamnagar is located at an altitude of 202 meters above sea level and is surrounded by lush green forests. The Simsang River flows through the town, and the landscape is dotted with hills and valleys. The town experiences a subtropical climate, with warm summers and mild winters.

As per the 2011 census, the population of Williamnagar was 8,214, with a male population of 4,210 and a female population of 4,004. The town has a literacy rate of 80%, which is higher than the national average.
