This place is very sacred and also completely secular.   Here, the place like Haygrev Madhav Dim Ri, Kedareshwar Dim Ri, Dhoparguri Sesa, Joey Durga Dim Ri, Ganesh Dim ri is very idyllish.  You will be surprised to see the temples and statues of Shiva, Vishnu, Buddha and Muslim saints at the same time and in one place.  Every place boasts a unique history. Also, there is Pova maize.  Hajo is famous among tourists worldwide, because outside a temple, the Haygrev Madhav Temple is known as the place where Buddhadev attained Nirvana.

Hajo has a long and rich history dating back to the 7th century AD when it was known as Sarvajna Peetha. The town was an important center of Hindu and Buddhist learning during the ancient period. The town has been ruled by various dynasties like the Varman dynasty, the Koch dynasty, the Mughals, and the Ahom dynasty. The town has witnessed many battles and wars during the medieval period, and it was an important center of resistance against the Mughals.

Geography

Hajo is located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River, and it is surrounded by hills on three sides. The town is situated at an altitude of 45 meters above sea level. The Brahmaputra River, which is one of the largest rivers in the world, flows through the town, making it a fertile agricultural region. The climate of Hajo is tropical, with hot summers and cool winters.

Demographics

Hajo is a culturally diverse town with people belonging to different religions and ethnic groups living together in harmony. The town has a population of around 40,000 people, and the majority of the population are Hindus. Muslims and Buddhists also form a significant part of the population. Assamese is the official language spoken in Hajo, but people also speak Bengali and Hindi.

Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people of Hajo. The fertile land along the Brahmaputra River is suitable for growing crops like rice, jute, sugarcane, and vegetables. Fishing is also an important occupation, and the Brahmaputra River is known for its rich fish resources. The town is also famous for its traditional handicrafts like bamboo and cane products, brass and copper utensils, and silk textiles. The town has a small market where these products are sold.

Hajo is known for its rich cultural heritage, which is a blend of Hindu, Muslim, and Buddhist traditions. The town is home to many temples, mosques, and monasteries, which are important pilgrimage centers for people of different religions. The Hayagriva Madhava Temple is one of the most important temples in Hajo, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is believed to be one of the four places in India where Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra fell. The Kedareswara Temple, the Ganesha Temple, and the Hajo Powa Mecca are other important religious sites in Hajo. The town is also known for its fairs and festivals, which are celebrated with great enthusiasm. The Hajo Baishagu Festival is one such festival, which is celebrated in April every year. It is a three-day festival that is celebrated by the Bodo people with traditional dances and music.
